The 6300 DWT Ocean Angel chemical vessel adopts a 270 kW shaft generator and a frequency converter, transferring the redundant power of the main engine to supply the ship’s network. Such configuration is also called Power Take Off (PTO) that can significantly increase the efficiency of the main engine while the auxiliary generator sets are totally shut down. SES-Tech delivered the whole system in 2017.

In the frequency converter, the key power module was developed by SES-Tech and certified by the CCS. Compared with the traditional controllable pitch propeller solution, the shaft generation system equipped with the converter is more reliable, more cost effective and more efficient.
